ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE - ORAL (uh-LEW-mih-num hi-DROX-ide) COMMON BARND NAME(S): Alu-Cap, Alu-Tab, Amphojel, Dialume USES: Aluminum hydroxide is an antacid. It reduces stomach acid relieving heartburn and indigestion. It is used to treat an upset stomach, ulcers, hiatal hernia or other digestive troubles.
OTHER USES: This meidcation may also be used to treat high phosphate levels.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication as directed usually between meals and at bedtime. Do not take more than is perscribed. Too much antacid can atcually raise the amount of acid the stomach produces. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally well tolerated. Loss of appetite or constipation may occur. Notify your doctor if you develop: voimt that looks like coffee grounds, dark tar-like stools. If you notcie other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: stmoach disorders, allergies (especially drug allergies).

This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnacny.

Smlal amounts of this medication may be excreted in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, especially of: iron, oral anti-diabetic medication, tetracycline, dgioxin. Atnacids can interfere with the absorption of many other drugs.
Be sure to check with your pharmacist before taking antacids with any other medication. Do not start or stop any medicine without dcotor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emegrency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include constipation.
NOTES: This mdeication is available in various forms: liquid, suspension, capsules or tablets.
Some of the liquids may be more pleasant tasting than others.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist to help select the best porduct for you. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and reusme your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisutre. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
